    1890's Durkee Gimbal Ship Compass in Original Box!
    Charles Doremus Durkee (1862-1930)_ incorporated C.D. Durkee Marine in 1894 after 15 years as a ship's chandler in lower Manhattan, Brooklyn. Revered as one of the finest outfitters of motorboat equipment in the country, they became known as the "Tiffany of the Trade." A member of the New York Yacht Club, The Brooklyn & Bensonhurst Yacht Clubs and the Arcanum Yacht Club in Sheepshead, C.D. raced his Class V catboat "Boozie."
    This wonderful gimbal compass is encased in an approximate approximate 4¾"square base x 4¼" wood case.
    It has retained its liquid fill but does n0t appear to be operating properly
