Description

The Philco 45 Compact (45C) is today a highly collectible model that because of the shape of its grille is popularly known as the "butterfly". It was introduced in the early summer of 1934 as part of Philco's new line-up for 1935. The original sales price was .95. It was described thus:
Automatic-volume-control, tone control, electro-dynamic speaker, etc.Sometime in late 1934 Philco produced its five millionth radio and to mark the event stores put on special promotions on purchases of 1935 radios. This radio was one of them.
I've replaced most of the capacitors and all the out of tolerance resistors in the chassis. I've fully aligned and tested the radio and it plays beautifully. I stripped and refinished the cabinet and replaced the speaker cloth. As you can see from the pictures, the cloth I used is far from original. I think the patterned cloth accentuates the idea of a butterfly but If you prefer, I've included a picture of an alternate plain cloth I fitted to the radio and I can easily change it for use instead. I could also include the alternate cloth in the package with the radio in case you might decide to change it yourself at a later date. That cloth is mounted on a hardboard backer cut to fit in place.
The radio is in a package measuring 14"x14"x22" and weighs 28Lbs. Shipping cost will be determined by your location and the shipping service you select.
