19th Century Chinese Ancestor Painting, Framed, Signed
Rare and unusual in this large size, image approximately 27 x 40";
and with frame 34 x 48". This is unique in the market due to
sheer size of painting.
Qing dynasty, circa 1870. Signature crisp and clear, but artist and subject not identified.
Substrate of laid paper. Hand-Painted utilizing thick water-based pigment.
Absolutely beautifully painted and crafted image, a superb example of
ancestor genre, and in splendid and bright colors.
Larger badge ranking system on image subject indicates approximate period of piece.
Single crane image on badge with red-capped head indicates scholar or court noblewoman,
possibly of the first rank. Red rising suns on headdress as well as lotus emblems flanking head,
most likely a pedigree of philosophical or spiritual role at high rank within the court.
Condition is very good to fine, with numerous folds, creases, and water stains,
appreciable of age of piece. There are a few small tears (repaired quite professionally),
but generally the substrate is quite consolidated, and the painted surface is quite immaculate.
Framed professionally in an amazing, thick plexiglass floating frame with custom holder buttons and hardware,
ensuring the integrity of the artwork. Frame alone is estimated at 0-800, and lends the art a
free-floating focused museum presentation.
The frame is is fine condition, with only a few noticeable surface scratches,
but does have a minor corner ding and crack at the top left corner (see image),
which extends about 1/2-3/4". The ding is noticeable if you know its there, but would be less noticeable on wall.
Sorry, shipping is quite high on this because of  packaging for frame size, protection, and insurance.
What a presentation piece for an appropriate space—study, office, or living lounge!
