Description

This highly prized AM radio is a very rare find.  Made circa 1931 in Tonawanda New York, it boasts a cabinet made by the Wurlitzer company and the brass emblem on the rear top of the radio attests to that.  Also note the Arcturus made blue glass vac
uum tube. The various wood solids and veneers are stunning and speak to the high quality craftsmanship and design of this masterpiece.  The dial bezel is wood too, oak I believe.  With a presence that is grand and majestic, it also has a warm and inviting look about it.
The cabinet is in overall excellent condition with no missing veneer.  There is one dent in the upper left that barely shows up on the photos.  There had been two holes in the very top that may have always been there for a handle.  I filled them in, as this radio should certainly not have a handle on it!
It is a six tube radio that is an early superheterodyne .  It receives
quite
well using a long antenna wire (provided).   It has great reception, selectivity & sensitivity that provide that warm and rich tube sound through the large speaker.  T
his radio must have gotten lots of complements when new due to its
stylishness
and allure.
And of course a
s with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail.  Please check the reviews on other radios I have restored and sold.
The cabinet was stripped of the original finish, keeping the original stain.  It was then nourished, rejuvenated and balanced.  The  bottom, top and fluted fluted column trims were redone in dark walnut toners to match the original.
The entire cabinet was given ten coats of clear lacquer with outstanding results. The dial graphics are crisp, clear and well lighted.  The oak bezel is perfect.   The original wooden knobs received the same treatment as the cabinet.  The grill cloth was replaced with a period correct one.  The power cord was replaced, using the original plug. T
he photos say the rest about how wonderfully this beautiful radio displays and the charming presence it has.
Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with
all
paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones.  Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed.  All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated.
Wiring and other components were replaced as needed.
The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the included external antenna.
The power cord was replaced.  Also, on the right side when looking at the back of the radio, note the sail switch that had been installed but was not connected when I found the radio.  It may have been for a phonograph input, but I left it as I found it as part of this radio's history.
This very rare radio has not shown up for sale anywhere that I can find.  I may well be the pinnacle of a collector's array of radios, an excellent gift for that discerning someone or a valuable piece of American history.  At 90 years old, it once again looks like new and old at the same time.
And, now that it is completely restored, it sounds like it too!  It will continue to bring reliable enjoyment for many more years if well cared for.
Dimensions:  16.5x13x9”.
It is a heavier radio and will be double boxed for shipment.
This radio will be packaged very carefully for shipment and may be double boxed if needed to best protect it.  It will have packing materials placed between the chassis/tubes and cabinet to reduce the risk of tube displacement or damage during shipment.
The buyer must remove those materials prior to use.
The seller will instruct the buyer on how to accomplish this after the radio has shipped.
Buyers should note that tube AM & SW radio reception can often be very negatively affected by florescent, LED and other lights, even those in another room.  It can also be affected by FAX machines and other devices.  If you are having reception interference, try turning off those devices and check for improvement.
Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced.
The tubes in this radio are in good
working order.
The seller cannot guarantee the length of time before a tube will need to be replaced. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
