    **
    Attributed to
Qi Baishi, this work impresses by the vivid spontaneity of its depiction of succulent cherries. The painting has an intriguing provenance, as it once belonged to an important Chinese-American art historian who purchased it while visiting China in the 70s. It is now lightly attached to a thin wooden backing, but could be send without it.
    It bears
a signature (Bai Shi) attributed to this artist, and a seal with a design he mainly used in the 1920s.
It has suffered some damage as witnessed by a number of visible holes, although not in any painted area. It would be best exhibited cropped, matted, backed with similarly toned paper, and framed under glass.
    Painting size: 14 x 23 inches
