Description
This is a gorgeous and rather rare pre WWII AM/SW radio. With the eight inch speaker, it has warm and rich sound that is accentuated through the wooden grill slats. The stately walnut veneered cabinet was made by the famed Ingraham company, which the metal label on the bottom attests to. The burlwood inlay on the bottom 1/3 of the radio is just beautiful. Most impressive is that it still has the original finish, which is in overall excellent condition! It even has the original decal and knob function labels, which are also in excellent condition. Note the original signature Emerson "bullet" knobs and the stunning dial face with the airplane dial. There is some minor lifting of the veneer on the top. Other than that, it has that aged look of a radio that has been very well cared for.It has five tubes and a ballast tube. It has very good reception, selectivity and sensitivity using the external antenna lead with 10-12 feet of wire (included).
And of course a
s with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. Please check the reviews on other radios I have restored and sold.
The cabinet was completely disassembled and cleaned. It was then treated to a much needed nourishment and balancing agent. The entire cabinet was waxed twice over a week with a quality polish/wax with stunning results. The dial face graphics are crisp, clear and pleasantly lighted. The dial cover was replaced and is crystal clear. The original knobs were polished. The power cord was replaced, using a polarity correct plug. New felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture.
The photos say the rest about how wonderfully this radio displays and the charming presence it has.
Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with
all
paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The oscillator coil was
rebuilt
.
The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the included wire antenna for both the AM and SW.
This elegant and rare radio is now 82 years old and looking almost like it did when new. And, now that it is completely restored, it sounds like it too! It will continue to bring reliable enjoyment for many more years if well cared for. It is a wonderful addition to a collection or as a gift for someone to cherish.
Dimensions: 16x10x7.5”.
This radio will be packaged very carefully for shipment and may be double boxed if needed to best protect it. It will have packing materials placed between the chassis/tubes and cabinet to reduce the risk of tube displacement or damage during shipment.
The buyer must remove those materials prior to use.
The seller will instruct the buyer on how to accomplish this after the radio has shipped.
Buyers should note that tube AM & SW radio reception can often be very negatively affected by florescent, LED and other lights, even those in another room. It can also be affected by FAX machines and other devices. If you are having reception interference, try turning off those devices and check for improvement.
Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced.
The tubes in this radio are in good
working order.
The seller cannot guarantee the length of time before a tube will need to be replaced. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
